IMPROMPTU THURSDAY-NIGHT RITUAL (for jpb)

i'll trace a bone-dry circle in this sky
and light a smoke, invoking (inter alia)
old agni, thanatos and jove, then i
will ask you to my little saturnalia...

  1. (had thought i'd already commented on this, obviously not)

i'm taken by the thought of how the rather mundane can be transformed by the poet to a summoning up the old gods as a blessing.

    on a similar track...

For here too there are gods,
    Find them in unexpected places,
    Among the everyday,
It is their nature to hide in the common,
Expectancy of the divine or supernatural,
    Leads only to confused disappointment,
    Man dwells alongside gods,
    In the house of Being.
